Pregnancy and Birth Injury Claims

Injuries from Instrumental Deliveries

Instrumental Birth

An instrumental delivery involves the use of forceps and/or ventouse (vacuum cup) to help deliver the baby if labour has not progressed or if there is a medical need to quickly deliver the baby.

The following injuries can be sustained from an instrumental delivery:

  1. Perineal tears;
  2. Incontinence;
  3. Damage to the pelvic floor;
  4. Blood loss and blood clots;

Instrumental delivery injuries usually heal with time, but in some cases they may lead to long term conditions.

If you have suffered from an instrumental delivery injury which you believe was caused or exacerbated by medical negligence, you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation.
